Hoshen: Education & Change

Hoshen, the Hebrew acronym for "Education & Change", is the education and information center of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) community in Israel. It is a nationwide, non-profit organization whose purpose is to fight stereotypes regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.
Over the past decade, Israeli society has progressed in leaps and bounds towards acceptance and tolerance of diversity, including the GLBT community.
Tel Aviv was voted one of the gay-friendliest cities in the world in 2012. However, there is still a very long way to go. Israel is a “melting pot” country comprised of many religious and ethnic minorities, and there are still many communities in which GLBT youth and adults are excluded, banned, or forced to live in fear.
The tragic assassination of two young people in an GLBT youth center in the heart of Tel Aviv in 2009 was a stark reminder that our work is far from being completed.
